A lot of people have been asking me how to fix pst files that have been corrupted. They back up their email in Microsoft Outlook to a .pst file, and then when they go to open the file, the pst file won’t open.

Talk about frustrating!

You have a few options here. You could try to repair the .pst file with the free tool provided by Microsoft called the Inbox Repair Tool or you could use a program that is much more powerful and reliable called Outlook PST Recovery.

The free tool by Microsoft will sometimes fix your file with no problem, but in many cases, it won’t work and you’ll be stuck without your emails. This is where Outlook PST Recovery comes in. This program is free to try, but the full version isn’t free.

Here’s what I recommend. Try the Microsoft version. When it doesn’t work, try this tool for free. If you’re able to get the first 10 emails with the free version, definitely invest in the paid version. You won’t be sorry and you won’t ever be stuck with a corrupt pst file again.
